SPD Rural

Ninety per cent of the Rural Entrepreneurs come from backgrounds with very little or zero exposure to management concepts & principles, information and communication systems, minimal skill sets and knowledge for setting HR and business practices, systems and procedures, accounting standards, man-management skills, e-commerce, marketing, supply chain & distribution.

The moment the Rural or Village Level Entrepreneur be it a Farmer, Craftsman, Artisan, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Owner opts for funding the working capital by way of borrowing funds or taking loans from friends, relatives, banks and institutions he enters a vicious debt cycle. It does not take that much intelligence, to come to the conclusion that without the required skills, expertise and experience the whole exercise can end up in disaster.

For the Rural Entrepreneur to get his wheel out of the sand he needs to have access to Business Intelligence, have a plan in place and implement an operations strategy. This leads us into two situations – how can you lend to a Rural Entrepreneur who has no clue of business fundamentals, and who lacks the capacity to upgrade his business acumen to rise above everything and set a vision for growth and prosperity?

SPD has scaled down Technology and Management principles to the village level so as to bring about a sense of empowerment and offer a ray of hope to the under privileged, un-educated, non-English speaking, cash crunched, computer & internet ignorant sections of society. We believe that there should be a level playing field and that everyone should have an equal opportunity to give life their best shot.

SPD fills this gap by designing the ‘Go-to-Market’ strategy. This involves setting up the Sales and Marketing strategy, arranging the collection of raw material and packaging material from various suppliers, delivery to the Production Unit, enquiry processing and quotation, storage and warehousing of the finished goods, order fulfillment, inventory management, exports and delivery within India upto proof-of-delivery (POD).

The payables and receivables are handled by SPD. This way the working capital runs in a closed loop with no chance for the funds to be used for any other purpose than for the business in is supposed to be employed in. The funds flow through the loop with no one being in a position to get access, thereby ensuring security of the funds invested and no write-offs.

For the Craftsman, Artisan, Rural Entrepreneur, MSME (consumer durables) and Small Traders, (Business to Retail B2R) it is beyond their imagination to get access to the Major Retail Chains, Retail Outlets in Shopping Malls, Super Markets and Hypermarkets. Besides the language and commercial barriers there is the issue of extending credit, challenges of logistics, barcoding, documentation, contract clauses, language barriers etc. Their sales and marketing channels are mostly through middlemen, traders, NGO’s and exhibitions.

SPD acts as the bridge or distribution channel that connects this sector to their respective Market. SPD designs the Interface where an e-store is opened for each Supplier, Buyer gets to view the separate product catalogues with retail and wholesale prices, enquiries generated are filtered and processed, quotations with landed cost submitted – both for domestic and for exports, order confirmed and payment collected from the Buyer.

SPD as the e-distributor takes responsibility to present the products to the Retail Outlets, initiate the process by delivering samples to be displayed on the display stands, complete the contractual formalities, set the credit terms, arrange collection from the Supplier, deliver to the Buyer’s warehouse, provide storage and warehousing, handle order fulfilment, inventory management, delivery to the Buyer’s warehouse or the Customers door.

SPD works closely with GS 1 India that is an autonomous body which sets standards for tracking and tracing. SPD understands the parameters of the Retail Outlets, and oversees the barcode labelling to be set as per the standards required.

The SPD Rural vertical syncs in to the SPD Bazaar vertical whereby, agro and food products find a way direct-to-home of the Urban Consumer.
